Enriching the Internet Experience - The conference comprises a range of Web 2.0 presentations from industry and academic experts.

Fidelity Investments and TerraNua, in collaboration with the Information Technology Association of Galway (ITAG) are hosting the Fidelity Investments Technology Conference 2007. Join us at this event on October 18, at the Ardilaun Hotel in Galway.

Chaired by Dr. Chris Horn, co-founder and former CEO of IONA Technologies, the conference will examine emerging technologies and web usage patterns (commonly referred to as Web 2.0), the new business models they enable, as well as the implications for enterprises and the financial services sector.

The conference schedule includes four in-depth presentations from academic and industry experts. Areas such as Mobile Web 2.0, Social Networking and Collaboration platforms, the emergence of Virtual Worlds as well as security concerns with Web 2.0 architectures, will be discussed.

Dr. Horn has been a non–executive director of a number of privately held software companies and business associations and advisor to a number of venture capital firms. Former Director of Science Foundation Ireland, and former chair of the "Expert Group on Future Skills" for Ireland's Educational Technology Investment Fund, as well as the Dublin Chamber of Commerce eCity working group, he has also chaired the Irish Management Institute. Dr. Horn regularly contributes to debate on Ireland's high-tech industry and is a member of the Information & Communications Technology (ICT) working group at IBEC. He was the founding chairman of the Ireland China Association. In 2005, Dr. Horn co-founded Slí Siar, which provides support for companies planning to enter the China Market.

Dr. John Breslin received the BE degree with 1st class honours and the PhD degree from the National University of Ireland, Galway in 1994 and 2002, respectively. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher and adjunct lecturer at NUIG's Digital Enterprise Research Institute, where he is researching semantically-enabled social networks and community portals. Dr. Breslin has received a number of awards for website design, including a Golden Spider for the Irish community website boards.ie, which he co-founded in 2000. The Irish Internet Association presented him with Net Visionary awards in 2005 and 2006.

Ajit Jaokar has worked with Web 2.0 since its inception, in the Enterprise and Mobility domains. He is a regular speaker at technology events including keynote presentations at O'Reilly Web 2.0 and Java One, as well as at 3GSM Barcelona, Real-World AJAX and IMS World (in Monaco). He recently presented at the European Parliament on Web 2.0, Mobile Web 2.0 and the social web. Ajit has also featured on CNN Money, The BBC Digital Planet, and The Scoble show. He has also presented at the Digital Visions Program at Stanford University and at MIT/Sloan.

Ajit chairs Oxford University's Next generation mobile applications panel and conducts a course on Web 2.0 and User Generated Content at Oxford University. He is the co-author of 'Mobile web 2.0' and a member of the Web2.0 workgroup. He believes in a pragmatic but open Mobile Data industry – a vision which he fosters through his blog OpenGardens, which was recently rated a top 20 wireless blog worldwide. Ajit lives in London, holds three nationalities (British, Indian and New Zealander) and is proud of all three. He is currently doing a PhD on Identity and Reputation Systems.

David Burden started his career in army communications, managing a range of mobile and wireless systems in a variety of challenging situations. After being "demobbed" in 1990, David joined Ascom, the Swiss telecoms company, and then Aseriti, the £70m turnover IT arm of Severn Trent plc. During this time, David was involved in the operation and development of both conventional and web based mobile systems, before moving onto the commercial side of the business, ultimately becoming the company's Marketing Director. During the Dot Com boom David founded a wireless data company that developed both WAP and Voice XML systems; he also founded the Midlands chapter of the First Tuesday Networking organisation. in 2004 he founded Daden, an Information 2.0 Consultancy.

David has been involved in virtual worlds since the mid 1990s, having created early spaces using VRML and played in several early 3D communal worlds. David's first virtual home was at Retsmah Crossing in Alpha World. He has been in Second Life since 1994 where his real-life and SL business Daden Ltd. helps businesses and organisations explore the social and commercial potential of virtual worlds. David also has a keen interest in artificial intelligence; Daden has an AI platform for use both in SL and on the web.

David is a Chartered Engineer and lives in Birmingham, where he is active in City and Regional business, technology and innovation initiatives.

Richard Mooney is a senior solutions architect with Vordel, a leading provider of SOA security and governance infrastructure products. Richard is responsible for architecting and implementing best of breed SOA security infrastructures for leading Fortune 1000 and public sector organisations in Europe and North America. Richard regularly delivers training workshops to partners and customers and is a frequent presenter at industry conferences. Prior to joining Vordel, Richard worked at Sun, Oracle and LogicaCMG. He has an Engineering qualification from University College Dublin.
